321 stainless steel sheet is a part of the austenitic family of stainless steels, specifically designed for high-temperature applications. It is essentially a titanium-stabilized version of the 304 grade, making it a superior choice for environments where heat exposure is significant.

Properties of 321 Stainless Steel

One of the key advantages of 321 stainless steel is its ability to withstand elevated temperatures, functioning effectively up to 900°C, compared to 304 grade, which is typically limited to 500°C. This grade exhibits excellent forming and welding characteristics, though it is not suitable for decorative purposes due to its poor polishing capabilities.

The addition of titanium enhances 321’s resistance to intergranular corrosion, particularly in the temperature range of 427-818°C (800-1500°F). This makes it ideal for applications involving welding or sustained high-temperature operations. The alloy contains chromium, nickel, and titanium, and it is non-heat treatable and non-magnetic in its annealed state.

Applications and Availability

321 stainless steel is commonly used across various industries, including oil refineries and automotive exhaust systems, due to its excellent oxidation and corrosion resistance. It maintains strength and toughness even at sub-zero temperatures, providing versatility in application.

TW offers a wide range of 321 stainless steel sheets and coils, certified to AMS 5510, ASTM A 240, and SA 666, with delivery available across the UK.
